Hello, my name is Jim Donovan, and I am a Realtor and the Principal Broker of Hawaii Hoku Star Realty, LLC.

Having spent most of my career as a Certified Public Accountant, I first became licensed as a California Real Estate professional in 1981. My parents were licensed (my mother as a broker), and I used my license primarily for my own investments.

In 1996, after selling our computer software company, my wife and I moved to the Big Island where we had purchased a 3-acre parcel in Kohala Ranch. Realizing that I had retired too young, I volunteered my services as the Architectural Control Chairman of that subdivision. Over the next five years, I assisted many owners in the development of their properties / building of their homes. After awhile, I realized that I was often "closing the deals" merely to watch the real estate agents earn the commissions. So, I became licensed in Hawaii myself, then advanced to become a real estate broker.

My wife Katherine, also licensed as a professional real estate agent, works closely with me in an administrative role. Her go-the-distance thoroughness is exemplified by the fact that she is an Ironman Triathlon World Championship athlete, having completed her fifth-in-a-row on October 11, 2008.
